Orangutan’s first production, ‘Othello’, enjoyed a successful run at The Riverside Studios in 2014. It received Four-Star reviews as well as three nominations in Best Acting categories in the Off-Westend Awards. The show was billed as follows:
“A tragedy of love, paranoia, jealousy and murder unfolds in the shadowy, nightmarish, world of Shakespeare’s most brutal and gripping thriller. Angels will fall and devils will soar. This is Shakespeare’s masterpiece reinvented in the style of classic Film Noir.”
It starred Gillian Saker (BBC’s Ripper Street, E4’s Misfits) as Desdemona, Stefan Adegbola (Michael Grandage Company) as Othello, Peter Lloyd (Barking in Essex, Westend) as Iago and Andrew Lewis (Holby City 2000-2010) as Brabantio. It was directed by Rebekah Fortune (RSC Collaboration “The Tempest”, ATG’s “A Dickens of A Life”) and cast by Jane Deitch (Head of BBC Casting ’99-’06).
